1
Let the height of the tower be AB = h m. Let the point on the ground be C, such that BC = 100 m. The angle of elevation of the top of the tower from C is ∠ACB=30∘.In right-angled triangle ABC,
tan⁡30∘=ABBC13=h100

h=1003=10033 m.
The height of the tower is 10033 m.

2
Let the height of the tree be AB. Let the tree break at point C. The broken part is AC, which touches the ground at point D. So, AC = CD. Let the height of the tree be H.Then, AB = AC + BC = H.Given, the distance between the foot of the tree and the point where the top touches the ground is BD = 8 m.The angle made by the broken part with the ground is ∠CDB=30∘.In right-angled triangle BCD,
tan⁡30∘=BCBD13=BC8

BC=83=833 m.

cos⁡30∘=BDCD32=8CD

CD=163=1633 m.
Since AC = CD, AC = 1633 m.
Total height of the tree, H = AC + BC = 1633+833=2433=83 m.

3
Let the height of the building be AB = 30 m. Let the initial position of the girl be C and the final position be D. Let the height of the girl be 1.5 m. Let her eyes be at point E (at height 1.5 m from the ground).Initial angle of elevation from E to A is ∠AEF=30∘, where F is the point on the building at the same height as E. So, AF = 30 - 1.5 = 28.5 m.The distance of the girl from the building initially is CF = EF.In right-angled triangle AEF,
tan⁡30∘=AFEF13=28.5EF

EF=28.53 m.
After walking towards the building, let her position be D. The new distance from the building is DF. The angle of elevation from her eyes at G (at height 1.5 m) to A is ∠AGH=60∘. So, AH = 30 - 1.5 = 28.5 m.
In right-angled triangle AGH,

tan⁡60∘=AHGH3=28.5GH

GH=28.53=28.533=9.53 m.
The distance walked by the girl is CD = EF - GH = 28.53−9.53=193 m.

4
Let the height of the building be AB = 7 m. Let the height of the cable tower be CD = H. Let the distance between the building and the tower be BD = AC = x m.From the top of the building (point A), the angle of elevation of the top of the tower (point C) is ∠CAE=60∘.From the top of the building (point A), the angle of depression of the foot of the tower (point D) is ∠DAF=45∘.In right-angled triangle ACD,tan⁡60∘=ACAE (This is incorrect. AE is part of the height of the tower, not the distance between them)Let's redraw: Let the height of the building be AB = 7 m. Let the height of the cable tower be CD. Let the point on the ground directly below the top of the building be B. Let the point on the ground directly below the top of the tower be D. Let the distance between the building and the tower be BD = x. The top of the building is A. The top of the tower is C.Angle of elevation of C from A is 60°.Angle of depression of D from A is 45°.Draw a horizontal line AE from A. Then ∠CAE=60∘.Since AE is parallel to BD, ∠ADE=45∘ (alternate interior angles).In right-angled triangle ADE,
tan⁡45∘=AEDE1=AEx

So, AE = x.
Now, the height of the tower CD = CE + ED.
CE = AE = x.
ED = AB = 7 m.
So, CD = x + 7.
In right-angled triangle AEC (this is not a right triangle). Let's reconsider.
Let the height of the building be AB = 7 m. Let the height of the cable tower be CD. Let the distance between the building and the tower be BD = x.
The observer is at A (top of the building).
Angle of elevation of C from A is ∠CAE=60∘, where AE is horizontal. AE = BD = x.
Angle of depression of D from A is ∠DAF=45∘, where AF is horizontal. AF = BD = x.
In right triangle ABE, where E is a point such that BE = AB = 7m, and AE is the horizontal distance. This is not working.

Let's use standard notation.
Let the height of the building be AB = 7 m. Let the height of the cable tower be CD = H. Let the distance between the base of the building and the base of the tower be BD = x.
The observer is at A (top of the building).
Draw a horizontal line AE parallel to BD. So AE = BD = x.
The angle of elevation of the top of the tower C from A is ∠CAE=60∘.
The angle of depression of the foot of the tower D from A is ∠DAE′=45∘, where AE' is the horizontal line. Since AE and AE' are the same line, let's call it AE.
So, ∠DAE=45∘.
In right triangle ABE, where E is a point such that BE = AB = 7m, and AE is the horizontal distance. This is also not working.

Correct approach for Q4:
Let the height of the building be AB = 7 m. Let the height of the cable tower be CD = h. Let the distance between the foot of the building and the foot of the tower be BD = x.
From the top of the building (point A), draw a horizontal line AE.
The angle of elevation of the top of the tower (C) from A is ∠CAE=60∘.
The angle of depression of the foot of the tower (D) from A is ∠DAE=45∘.
In right triangle ABD, ∠ADB is not defined directly.
Consider the horizontal line AE through A. AE is parallel to BD.
So, ∠ABD is not related directly.
In right triangle ADE where E is a point on the line segment CD such that DE = AB = 7m, and AE = BD = x.
In right triangle ADE, ∠AED=90∘.

tan⁡45∘=DEAE=7x

1=7x  ⟹  x=7 m.
Now consider the top of the tower. C is above E. CE = CD - DE = h - 7.
In right triangle ACE, ∠AEC=90∘.

tan⁡60∘=CEAE=h−7x3=h−7773=h−7

h=7+73=7(1+3) m.
The height of the tower is 7(1+3) m.

5
Let the height of the multi-storeyed building be PC = h. Let the height of the other building be AB = 8 m. Let the distance between the two buildings be AC = x m.From the top of the multi-storeyed building (P), the angle of depression of the top of the other building (A) is 30°.From the top of the multi-storeyed building (P), the angle of depression of the bottom of the other building (B) is 45°.Draw a horizontal line PQ.∠QPA=30∘. Since PQ is parallel to AB, ∠PAB=30∘ (alternate interior angles).∠QPB=45∘. Since PQ is parallel to AB, ∠PBA=45∘ (alternate interior angles). This is incorrect.Let's draw a horizontal line through P. Let the point on the other building at the same height as P be A. This is not helpful.

Correct approach for Q5:
Let the height of the multi-storeyed building be PC = h. Let the height of the other building be AB = 8 m. Let the horizontal distance between the two buildings be AC = x.
From the top of the multi-storeyed building (P), draw a horizontal line PQ.
The angle of depression of the top of building A is 30°, so ∠QPA=30∘.
The angle of depression of the bottom of building B is 45°, so ∠QPB=45∘.
Draw a line from P parallel to AC, meeting AB at D. Then PD = AC = x.
And AD = PB = h - 8.
In right triangle APD, ∠ADP=90∘.

tan⁡30∘=ADPD=h−8x

13=h−8x  ⟹  x=3(h−8) (Equation 1)
Now consider the angle of depression to B.
Draw a line from P parallel to AC, meeting the line extended from AB at D. This is confusing.

Let's use the diagram provided in NCERT, Fig 9.9.
PC is the multi-storeyed building, AB is the 8m tall building. AC is the distance.
Draw a horizontal line through P. Let it be PQ.
∠QPA=30∘. ∠QPB=45∘.
Since PQ is parallel to AB, ∠PBD=30∘ (alternate interior angles).
In right triangle PBD, tan⁡30∘=PDBD. Here PD is the horizontal distance, which is AC = x. BD is the height difference, which is PC - BC = h - 8.
So, tan⁡30∘=xh−8.
13=xh−8  ⟹  x=h−83 (Equation 1)
Now consider the angle of depression to B.
∠QPB=45∘.
Draw a horizontal line through P.
Consider the right triangle formed by P, B, and the point on the line PB at the same height as B.
This is also confusing. Let's re-read the NCERT solution for Example 6.
"In Fig. 9.9, PC denotes the multi- storyed building and AB denotes the 8 m tall building. We are interested to determine the height of the multi-storeyed building, i.e., PC and the distance between the two buildings, i.e., AC. Look at the figure carefully. Observe that PB is a transversal to the parallel lines PQ and BD. Therefore, ∠QPB and ∠PBD are alternate angles, and so are equal. So ∠PBD=30∘."
This statement in the book is incorrect based on the diagram. The diagram shows the angle of depression of the top and bottom of the 8m building.
Let's assume PC is the multi-storeyed building and AB is the 8m building.
Let PC = h and AC = x.
Observer is at P.
Angle of depression of A is 30°.
Angle of depression of B is 45°.
Draw a horizontal line through P, say PX.
∠XPA=30∘.
∠XPB=45∘.
Since PX is parallel to AC, and AC is perpendicular to AB, PX is perpendicular to AB line.
In △PAX, AX = PC - AC = h - 8. This is not correct. AX = height difference.
Let's assume A is the top of the 8m building and B is the bottom.
Let C be the top of the multi-storeyed building and D be the bottom.
Let the height of the multi-storeyed building be CD = h. Let the height of the 8m building be AB = 8. Let the distance between them be BD = x.
Observer is at C.
Angle of depression of A is 30°.
Angle of depression of B is 45°.
Draw a horizontal line through C, say CE.
∠ECA=30∘.
∠ECB=45∘.
Since CE is parallel to BD, ∠CAB=30∘ (alternate interior angles). This is wrong.
Let's go back to the NCERT text's interpretation.
PC = multi-storeyed building (height h). AB = 8 m building. AC = x (distance).
Observer at P.
Angle of depression of A is 30°. ∠XPA=30∘.
Angle of depression of B is 45°. ∠XPB=45∘.
Draw horizontal line PQ.
In right triangle formed by P, A and the point vertically below P on AB line (let's call it D). PD = x. AD = h - 8.

tan⁡30∘=ADPD=h−8x

13=h−8x  ⟹  x=3(h−8) (1)
Now consider the angle of depression to B.
In right triangle formed by P, B and the point vertically below P on the ground (which is C itself). This is not right.

Let's restart Q5 with a clear diagram concept:
Let the height of the taller building be H and the shorter building be h=8 m. Let the distance between them be d.
From the top of the taller building, the angle of depression to the top of the shorter building is 30∘.
From the top of the taller building, the angle of depression to the bottom of the shorter building is 45∘.
Let the top of the taller building be T. Let the top of the shorter building be S. Let the bottom of the shorter building be B.
Let the point directly below T at the level of S be P. Then TP=d. TS=H−h. ∠TPS=30∘.
In right-angled triangle TPS:

tan⁡30∘=TSTP=H−hd

13=H−8d  ⟹  d=3(H−8) (Eq. 1)

Let the point directly below T at the level of B be Q. Then TQ=d. TB=H.
The angle of depression to B is 45∘.
In right-angled triangle TBQ:

tan⁡45∘=TBTQ=Hd

1=Hd  ⟹  d=H (Eq. 2)

From Eq. 1 and Eq. 2:

H=3(H−8)H=3H−8383=3H−H=H(3−1)

H=833−1=83(3+1)(3−1)(3+1)=8(3+3)3−1=8(3+3)2=4(3+3) m.
H=12+43 m.
The height of the multistoried building is 12+43 m.
The distance between the two buildings is d=H=12+43 m.

6
Let the height of the building be AB = 60 m. Let the height of the lamp post be CD = h. Let the horizontal distance between them be AC = x.From the top of the building (A), the angle of depression of the top of the lamp post (C) is 30°.From the top of the building (A), the angle of depression of the bottom of the lamp post (D) is 60°.Draw a horizontal line through A, say AE.∠EAC=30∘.∠EAD=60∘.Since AE is parallel to CD, ∠ACD=30∘. This is wrong interpretation.Let's use the diagram concept of Q5.Let the top of the building be A, bottom be B. Height AB = 60 m.Let the top of the lamp post be C, bottom be D. Height CD = h.Distance between them be BD = x.Observer is at A.Angle of depression of C is 30°.Angle of depression of D is 60°.Draw a horizontal line through A, say AE.∠EAC=30∘.∠EAD=60∘.Since AE is parallel to BD, ∠ACB=30∘. This is wrong.Consider right triangle formed by A, C, and the point on the lamp post at the same height as A. This is not a standard case.

Correct approach for Q6:
Let the height of the building be AB = 60 m. Let the height of the lamp post be CD = h. Let the horizontal distance between them be AC = x.
From the top of the building (A), draw a horizontal line AE.
The angle of depression of the top of the lamp post (C) is 30°. So, ∠EAC=30∘.
The angle of depression of the bottom of the lamp post (D) is 60°. So, ∠EAD=60∘.
Since AE is parallel to BD, ∠ACD=30∘ is wrong.
In △ACE, CE = AB - CD = 60 - h. AE = AC = x.

tan⁡30∘=CEAE=60−hx

13=60−hx  ⟹  x=3(60−h) (1)
In △ADE, DE = AB = 60 m. AE = AC = x.

tan⁡60∘=DEAE=60x

3=60x  ⟹  x=603=203 m.
Substitute x in (1):

203=3(60−h)20=60−h

h=60−20=40 m.
(i) The horizontal distance between the building and the lamp post is x=203 m.
(ii) The distance between the tops of the building and the lamp post is AC. We need to find AC.
This is not correct. The question asks for the distance between the tops, which is the length of the line segment AC.
AC is the hypotenuse in triangle ACE.

AC2=AE2+CE2=x2+(60−h)2AC2=(203)2+(60−40)2=(203)2+(20)2AC2=(400×3)+400=1200+400=1600

AC=1600=40 m.
The distance between the tops of the building and the lamp post is 40 m.

7
Let the height of the kite be h. The length of the string is l = 80 m. The angle made by the string with the ground is θ=30∘.In a right-angled triangle formed by the kite, the point on the ground, and the point directly below the kite on the ground:
sin⁡30∘=height of kitelength of string12=h80

h=802=40 m.
The height of the kite above the ground is 40 m.

8
Let the height of the pedestal be hp. Let the height of the statue be hs=1.6 m.Let the point on the ground be P. Let the top of the pedestal be A and the bottom be B. Let the top of the statue be C.The angle of elevation of the top of the pedestal from P is 45∘, so ∠APB=45∘.The angle of elevation of the top of the statue from P is 60∘, so ∠CPB=60∘.Let the distance of P from the base of the pedestal (B) be PB = x.In right-angled triangle APB:
tan⁡45∘=ABPB=hpx

1=hpx  ⟹  x=hp.
The total height of the pedestal and statue is AC = hp+hs=hp+1.6.
In right-angled triangle CPB:

tan⁡60∘=ACPB=hp+1.6x

3=hp+1.6hp (since x=hp)

3hp=hp+1.63hp−hp=1.6hp(3−1)=1.6

hp=1.63−1=1.6(3+1)(3−1)(3+1)=1.6(3+1)3−1=1.6(3+1)2=0.8(3+1) m.
The height of the pedestal is 0.8(3+1) m.

9
Let the length of the rope be l = 20 m. Let the angle made by the rope with the ground be θ=30∘. Let the height of the pole be h.In a right-angled triangle formed by the top of the pole, the point on the ground where the rope is tied, and the foot of the pole:
sin⁡30∘=height of polelength of rope12=h20

h=202=10 m.
The height of the pole is 10 m.

10
Let the height of the tower be AB = h. Let the distance of the point from the foot of the tower be BC = 30 m. The angle of elevation is ∠ACB=30∘.In right-angled triangle ABC:
tan⁡30∘=ABBC13=h30

h=303=3033=103 m.
The height of the tower is 103 m.

11
For the children below 5 years: height h1=1.5 m, angle θ1=30∘. Let the length of the slide be l1.In right-angled triangle:
sin⁡30∘=h1l1

12=1.5l1  ⟹  l1=2×1.5=3 m.
For elder children: height h2=3 m, angle θ2=60∘. Let the length of the slide be l2.
In right-angled triangle:

sin⁡60∘=h2l2

32=3l2  ⟹  l2=3×23=63=633=23 m.
The length of the slide for children below 5 years is 3 m and for elder children is 23 m.

12
Let the height of the poles be h. Let the width of the road be 80 m. Let the point between the poles be P. Let the poles be AB and CD. Let P be on the road such that AP = x. Then PC = 80 - x.Angle of elevation of the top of pole AB from P is ∠APB=60∘.Angle of elevation of the top of pole CD from P is ∠CPD=30∘.In right-angled triangle ABP:
tan⁡60∘=ABAP=hx

3=hx  ⟹  h=x3 (1)
In right-angled triangle CDP:

tan⁡30∘=CDPC=h80−x

13=h80−x  ⟹  h=80−x3 (2)
Equating (1) and (2):

x3=80−x33x=80−x

4x=80  ⟹  x=20 m.
Now find the height of the poles:
h=x3=203 m.
The distances of the point from the poles are 20 m and 80−20=60 m.
The height of the poles is 203 m.

13
Let the height of the TV tower be AB = h. Let the width of the canal be BC = x.From a point C on the other bank, the angle of elevation of the top of the tower (A) is ∠ACB=60∘.From another point D, 20 m away from C on the line joining C to the foot of the tower B, the angle of elevation of A is ∠ADB=30∘. So, CD = 20 m and BD = BC + CD = x + 20.In right-angled triangle ABC:
tan⁡60∘=ABBC=hx

3=hx  ⟹  h=x3 (1)
In right-angled triangle ABD:

tan⁡30∘=ABBD=hx+20

13=hx+20  ⟹  h=x+203 (2)
Equating (1) and (2):

x3=x+2033x=x+20

2x=20  ⟹  x=10 m.
Now find the height of the tower:
h=x3=103 m.
The height of the tower is 103 m and the width of the canal is 10 m.

14
Let the height of the bridge be DP = 3 m. Let the width of the river be AB. Let D be the point on the bridge. A and B are the banks on opposite sides. So, AB = AD + DB.From point D, the angle of depression of bank A is 30°. So, ∠DAE=30∘, where AE is horizontal. In right triangle ADE, ∠DAE is not the angle.Let's use alternate interior angles. Draw a horizontal line through D. Let it be DE.Angle of depression of A is 30°, so ∠EDA=30∘.Angle of depression of B is 45°, so ∠EDB=45∘.Since DE is parallel to AB, ∠DAB=30∘ and ∠DBA=45∘.In right-angled triangle ADP, where P is the point on the ground directly below D, so DP = 3m and AP is part of the width. This is not the setup.

Correct approach for Q14:
Let the height of the bridge be h = 3 m. Let the width of the river be W. Let the point on the bridge be P. Let the banks on opposite sides be A and B. So, AB = W.
Let the point directly below P on the ground be D. So, PD = 3 m.
The angle of depression of bank A is 30°. So, ∠APD is not the angle.
Let's consider the horizontal line through P. Let it be PX.
∠XPA=30∘.
∠XPB=45∘.
Since PX is parallel to AB, ∠PAB=30∘ and ∠PBA=45∘.
In right-angled triangle PDA, ∠PDA=90∘.

tan⁡30∘=PDAD=3AD

13=3AD  ⟹  AD=33 m.
In right-angled triangle PDB, ∠PDB=90∘.

tan⁡45∘=PDBD=3BD

1=3BD  ⟹  BD=3 m.
The width of the river AB = AD + BD = 33+3=3(3+1) m.

Let the height of the girl be 1.2 m. Let her eyes be at E. Let the initial position of the balloon be A and the final position be B. The balloon moves in a horizontal line at a height of 88.2 m.The height of the balloon from the girl's eyes is 88.2−1.2=87 m.Let the initial position of the girl be at point C on the ground.The angle of elevation of the balloon from her eyes is 60°. Let the balloon be at point A.In right-angled triangle formed by the girl's eyes, the balloon, and the point directly below the balloon at the eye level. Let this point be D. So, AD = 87 m.
tan⁡60∘=ADCD=87CD

3=87CD  ⟹  CD=873=8733=293 m.
After some time, the angle of elevation reduces to 30°. Let the new position of the balloon be B.

tan⁡30∘=BDCE=87CE

13=87CE  ⟹  CE=873 m.
The distance travelled by the balloon is AB = CE - CD = 873−293=583 m.

Let the height of the tower be h = 75 m. Let the position of the car initially be A and after 6 seconds be B. The car is approaching the foot of the tower, let's call it C.The angle of depression of the car at A is 30°. So, the angle of elevation of the top of the tower from A is ∠BAC=30∘.The angle of depression of the car at B is 60°. So, the angle of elevation of the top of the tower from B is ∠BBC=60∘.In right-angled triangle ABC:
tan⁡30∘=ACBC=75AC

13=75AC  ⟹  AC=753 m.
In right-angled triangle BBC:

tan⁡60∘=ABBC=75BC

3=75BC  ⟹  BC=753=7533=253 m.
The distance travelled by the car in 6 seconds is AB = AC - BC = 753−253=503 m.
The speed of the car is 5036=2533 m/s.
The time taken by the car to reach the foot of the tower from point B is BCspeed=2532533=3 seconds.
The time taken by the car to reach the foot of the tower from point A is ACspeed=7532533=753×3253=9 seconds.
The question asks for the time taken from the point where the angle of depression was 60°. This is the point B. The time taken from point B to C is 3 seconds.

Let the height of the lighthouse be h = 75 m. Let the positions of the two ships be A and B, with B being behind A. Let the foot of the lighthouse be P.The angle of depression of the first ship (A) is 30°. So, ∠APX=30∘, where PX is horizontal. This means ∠PAX=30∘.The angle of depression of the second ship (B) is 45°. So, ∠PBX=45∘. This means ∠PBX=45∘.In right-angled triangle APX, where PX is the horizontal distance from the lighthouse to A. ∠PAX=30∘.
tan⁡30∘=PXAP=75PX

13=75PX  ⟹  PX=753 m.
In right-angled triangle BPX, where PX is the horizontal distance from the lighthouse to B. ∠PBX=45∘.

tan⁡45∘=PXPB=75PB

1=75PB  ⟹  PB=75 m.
The distance between the two ships is AB = PB - PX = 75−753. This is incorrect as B is behind A.
The angle of depression of the second ship (B) is 45°. This means B is closer to the lighthouse.
So, the angle of depression of the ship farther away is 30°, and the angle of depression of the ship nearer is 45°.
Let the distance of the farther ship be d1 and the nearer ship be d2.
tan⁡30∘=75d1  ⟹  d1=753 m.
tan⁡45∘=75d2  ⟹  d2=75 m.
The distance between the two ships is d1−d2=753−75=75(3−1) m.

Let the length of the string be l = 60 m. Let the angle of elevation of the kite from the first boy be θ1=30∘. The height of the kite from the ground is hk.hk=lsin⁡30∘=60×12=30 m.Let the height of the building be hb=20 m. Let the kite's height be hk.The angle of elevation of the kite from the roof of the building is θ2=45∘.Let the horizontal distance of the first boy from the base of the building be x.Let the horizontal distance of the kite from the first boy be d1.hk=d1tan⁡30∘. This is incorrect.The height of the kite above the ground is 30 m.Let the first boy be at point P. Let the kite be at point K. Let the point on the ground directly below K be G. So KG = 30 m. ∠KPG=30∘.The second boy is on the roof of a 20 m high building. Let the building be at point B, with height BB' = 20 m. Let the top of the building be R.The angle of elevation of the kite from R is 45°.The height of the kite from the ground is 30 m.Let's re-evaluate the problem statement. The kite's height is not fixed to 30m if the angles change.Let the height of the kite from the ground be H.From the first boy, string length is 60 m, angle of elevation is 30°.sin⁡30∘=H60  ⟹  H=60×12=30 m.So the height of the kite is 30 m.The second boy is on a 20 m high building. His eye level is 20 m above the ground.The angle of elevation of the kite from the roof is 45°.The height of the kite above the roof level is 30−20=10 m.Let the horizontal distance from the second boy to the kite be d2.
tan⁡45∘=10d2

1=10d2  ⟹  d2=10 m.
The first boy is at a distance d1 from the point directly below the kite.

tan⁡30∘=Hd1=30d1

13=30d1  ⟹  d1=303 m.
The boys are on opposite sides of the kite.
The distance of the first boy from the base of the building is the sum of the horizontal distance of the first boy from the point below the kite and the horizontal distance of the building from the point below the kite.
The horizontal distance of the building from the point below the kite is d2=10 m.
So, the distance of the first boy from the base of the building = d1+d2=303+10 m.
Height of the kite from the ground is 30 m.

Let the height of the pole be AB = 10 m. Let the flag be at the top, so C is the top of the flag. The bottom of the flag is B.From a point P on the ground, the angle of elevation of the top of the flag (C) is 45°.From the same point P, the angle of elevation of the bottom of the flag (B) is 30°.Let the distance of P from the foot of the pole (B) be PB = x.In right-angled triangle ABP:
tan⁡30∘=ABPB=10x

13=10x  ⟹  x=103 m.
The total height of the pole and the flag is AC = AB + BC = 10 + length of flag. Let the length of the flag be l. So AC = 10 + l.
In right-angled triangle ACP:

tan⁡45∘=ACPB=10+lx1=10+l103103=10+l

l=103−10=10(3−1) m.
The length of the flag is 10(3−1) m.

Let the radius of the spherical balloon be r. The angle subtended by the balloon at the eye of the observer is 60°. Let the observer be at point O.This means the angle subtended by the diameter perpendicular to the line of sight is 60°.This implies that if we consider the centre of the balloon C, and two points P and Q on the circumference such that PQ is a chord, then ∠POQ=60∘. This is not standard.

Let's interpret "subtends an angle of 60°". This usually means the angle between the lines of sight to the extreme points of the object. For a sphere, this would mean the angle between the tangents from the observer to the sphere.
If the angle subtended by the diameter of the balloon at the eye is 60°, then in the triangle formed by the observer and the diameter, the angle at the observer is 60°.
Let the observer be at O. Let the centre of the balloon be C. Let the radius be r.
The angle of elevation of the centre C from O is 45°. Let the height of the centre be hc.
Let the point directly below C be D. So, OD is the horizontal distance. CD = hc.
In right triangle ODC:
tan⁡45∘=CDOD=hcOD  ⟹  OD=hc.
Now, consider the angle subtended by the balloon.
This implies that the angle formed by the tangents from O to the sphere is 60°.
Let the points of tangency be T1 and T2. Then ∠T1OT2=60∘.
Consider the triangle OT1C. This is a right triangle at T1. OC is the hypotenuse.
The line OC bisects ∠T1OT2. So ∠T1OC=30∘.
In right triangle OT1C:

sin⁡(∠T1OC)=T1COCsin⁡30∘=rOC

12=rOC  ⟹  OC=2r.
Now consider the height of the centre.

OC2=OD2+CD2(2r)2=OD2+hc2

4r2=OD2+hc2.
Since OD=hc,
4r2=hc2+hc2=2hc2.
hc2=4r22=2r2.
hc=2r2=r2.
Thus, the height of the centre of the balloon is 2 times its radius.
