To balance a chemical equation, you need to make sure the number of atoms of each element is the same on both the reactant and product sides. This is based on the law of conservation of mass.

Step 1: Write the skeletal chemical equation. For example: Fe + H₂O → Fe₃O₄ + H₂

Step 2: List the number of atoms of each element on both sides.
